Are you looking for useful tips and guidance techniques to help you get better organic traffic results coming to your blog or web site?
Here we hope to provide you with a few simple techniques and seo tips to get you started upon your way, to attracting that all important natural traffic flow.
You may have heard the expression before that Content is King on the internet and this is certainly true. Well written content is a much desired prerequisite for any web site owner and your unique content essentially serves two purposes. On the one hand, you want to use copy which helps the reader to feel included, and you can do this by utilizing a sentence structure which first draws the viewer in, helping them to understand that you can also see their problem, whatever it may be, for what it is. There is no need to provide a long winded explanation, just keep it short, simple, brief and to the point. You can then focus on the ideal solution and this is most important, a Call To Action on the viewers part when they have finished reading, if not to buy straightaway, then certainly to enable them to actually ‘Want’ to explore your web site in greater depth for more information about your services and/or products.
On the other hand, your web site unique content needs to be written in a manner that the search engines will recognize for it’s actual uniqueness. One of the mistakes that a lot of new web site owners make is poor keyword choice. What are keywords first? Ok, keywords are those words that someone is typing into the search box for example at google. Let’s say for example that you have a website all about the subject of search engine optimization, otherwise referred to commonly as SEO. Now, someone looking for SEO online might type in just that, namely, ‘SEO’, and this will obviously pull up a Huge number of results. Getting your website into the number one position on google for this keyword, no doubt is going to be next to impossible and even if you do pull it off and somehow do it, maintaining that number one position is going to be harder still, since so many other web sites are all vying for that most favored of positions, which will attract the most number of visitors to their website.
The secret first then, is to choose with some care a very good domain name. The most common ones are .com / .co.uk / .net / .org etc. If you are targeting visitors from around the world, use a .com if you can possibly do so, as from a respectability point of view, the .Com is King over all other domain extensions. If you cannot get the .com or any variation of your main keywords, and it doesn’t bother you, use a .net – from google’s point of view, there really is no difference, both extensions will be treated exactly the same. If on the other hand you are targeting UK customers and/or clients only, then go with the .co.uk extension as most British people on seeing this will straightaway be able to identify that your are a British company rather than a foreign company from overseas. This will help your potential customers to build up trust in you, since the domain name is the very first thing that any potential client will see regarding your actual business. Unless you are a non profit or charity do not use the .org for business purposes. There is no law saying you cannot do so, but generally speaking, it’s looked upon as fairly to do so.
So, what else can we learn about domain names? Whilst you may think it is cool to use a brand name, that is, a very individual name for your web site address, let’s say just by way of example, FireBirdSEO.com – this domain is actually going to be very difficult to get onto that all important page one of google, for google simply will not recognise the first two words as being anything related to search engine optimization (SEO) in the slightest. If you use unrelated words for the purpose of the web site, you are simply making your own SEO task in this case much more difficult, more time consuming and more expensive than it needs to be. You can find tools online to help you choose wisely a perfect domain name for you. Google Wordtracker Gtrends is one such tool. Simply place in the search box the three letters SEO and hit Return. The results will appear after a couple of seconds and likely the word SEO will appear at the top of the list. Look to the right and you can see a little graph symbol, if you click on that, the results will pop up showing on the top line the approximate number of web sites that are using that keyword. Ideally you want this number to be less than 30,000. The next line down shows the number of visitors approximately you can expect to receive if you managed to get into the number one position on google, this number needs to be over 100.
Now, for any one word, it’s highly unlikely that you will find results of less than 30,000, often they’ll number in the hundreds of thousands, so it may take a bit of brain storming on your part for an hour or two finding the best keyword/s to use. Let’s roll this forward a little bit. You’ve now found the ideal keyword choice, let’s say for example it’s USA Best SEO. The number of competing websites for this example is 18,775 and if you gain the number one position on google for this, what they call a ‘long tailed keyword’ is 175 visitors a day, can be expected.
So now we go to a domain registrar and we want to check to see if this domain is still available for registration. Yes it is. So, we now register this domain for a minimum of two years, this tells the search engines that this domain and subsequent web site that it’s likely to be around for quite a while, which again will help to give you a better ranking and positioning.
There is another ploy you can use, which in a two word domain is simply inserting a hyphen between two words. For example whilst USASEO.com might not be available, USA-SEO.com may be. Certainly you will not be penalized by the search engines for doing this. A note of caution though that hyphenated domain names are more difficult to remember and type in, so if you can avoid using them, do so. You really want your domain to be as short as possible and very easy to remember, difficult we know these days since many of the best domain names have already been registered.
Now, remember what I told you about that keyword tool above? You need to go back to the results that hopefully you wrote down, and choose for your homepage keywords, about five to eight long tailed keywords which fit the above peramators, in other words, less than 30,000 results with over 100 on the second line down (number of visitors). Whatever these keywords are, these are the keywords that you will be building into the content on your homepage with a density of between 5-12%.
The first task then is to have a header designed for your new web site, you can get one of these designed for about $6 at Digital Point Forums. On this header you want to display your website address, for example, USABestSEO.com and then immediately below this on what is called the ‘tagline’ you want to display this long tailed keyword again, for example; USA Best SEO Experts. Google will see this then right at the start of your website and will therefore give you a higher ranking.
Now, the actual wording of your web site homepage. First you want to relate to your potential readers, you want to grab their attention and hold it, choosing words that explain clearly and to the point why you are the solution to their particular problem. You want to set off in their mind ‘green’ buying signals, helping them to take the choice to use your services, rather than clicking away to a competitors web site. Also you need near to the concluding paragraph, built in, a positive call to action on their part, all the while using your keywords and long tailed keywords of choice to help you to rank even better.
Of course good SEO does not stop there. You might after you have done this, work on your next marketing strategy for your web site, and that is to help your readers recognize you as a leading expert in your particular niche of choice. One of the ways that you can do this is by the effective use of article marketing, which again will help you to get into that all important number one position on the major search engines as well as building up the prospects of you receiving natural back links, or thumbs up recognition from other web sites, the higher their individual page rank of course, the better.
